I read all the other reviews about how hard this was to put together. I had no such problem. Anyone with just a little common sense and a little mechanical ability should have it put together in about 5 minutes. I consider it a nice product for the price.

Black & Decker LST220 12-Inch 20-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless GrassHog Trimmer/Edger Review

Black and Decker LST220 12-Inch 20-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless GrassHog Trimmer/Edger
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Over the years I've used many Black & Decker products. Everything from power tools to lawn care equipment, most are as advertised and effectively do the job just as good as the higher priced competition. I haven't used a gas powered tool in over 12 years now. I've also gone the electric route as well. My eleven year old 18 volt B&D trimmer has more then proved itself and finally was put out to pasture. I'm still surprised that I got that much running time from the two 18 volt batteries that came with the unit. For quick and easy trimming, its been a capable tool. That said, I picked up the Black & Decker LST220 Grasshog Trimmer at my local hardware store last weekend.
After a quick inventory, I scanned over the brief instructions. Its pretty much cut and dry as to what's in the box. There's the trimmer, instructions, two batteries, cord, and a charger. The company also tags on a two year limited warranty. The instructions on Black & Decker tools are still amusing to say the least. It doesn't take a degree in rocket science to put a piece of their gear together. Knowing what I know about battery powered lawn tools, I knew I would need both batteries to complete the tasks in my large front and back yards. So I charged both of the 20 volt batteries for about 8 hours each.
Now the test. First off, the B&D LST220 Trimmer has a nice light feel to it. Like my older trimmer, the handle has a good ergonomic feel to it. It easily moves up and down and rotates a full 360 degrees. Adjustment is easy. It didn't take me long to find out about the line's new auto feed system. Its much nicer then the old bump and feed system. On average I found myself using about four of the 30' line spools a year. Only time will tell if that number drops with this new system.
The trimmer does seem faster. I don't doubt the advertised 7500 rpm a bit. The 12" trim path has not changed from my older model. The trigger configuration hasn't changed either. Its still has a nice feel. Trimming wise, this model operates smoothly without any hiccups. It does a great job of getting under bushes and around the fence line. Just like my older unit, I was not surprised that I had to utilize both batteries to get the front yard trimming done. I noticed a drop off in power at about 15 minutes. Good thing B&D includes two batteries. One battery doesn't come anywhere near getting the job done.
The metal guard for edging has stayed much the same design as the original model. Like my older B&D trimmers, the LST220 Trimmer is not capable of doing a great job of edging because of the steady drain on battery power. Even with two 20 volt batteries, its just not enough juice. I always have to break out my electric powered edger or hand tools to complete the task. Why Black & Decker even promotes its lineup of battery powered trimmers as edgers is a mystery to me.
Even though I am user of many Black & Decker products, I find the company's website limited on up to date product information. Product registration is available via the site. It seems that it took them ages to post a toll free number. Now depending on the product, there is a toll free number posted for each line. When I did contact customer service for other tools that I've owned, I've always received outstanding service. Signing up for the company newsletter via email is nothing more then receiving an occasion survey on products.
Even with its battery limitations, the Black & Decker LST220 Cordless Grass Hog Trimmer is a useful working tool in clearing out ground not accessible by a mower. When it comes to edging that's a different story. Personally I don't think there is any battery powered tool out there that certifies as a true edging tool. I know I've not seen or used one. Still, this Black & Decker tool covers the bases as a good gas free trimmer.

I haven't used the chains yet-its an oregon chain so it should be fine. My problem is with mowtown who charges $17.99 for the chain and then adds $8.99 for shipping. I ordered 2 chains and they charged shipping twice and sent them both in the same box. That works out to $26.98 per chain. They have been very uncooperative in settling this matter. You are better off at your local dealer.

Grass Gator 8010 Load n' Cut Replacement String Trimmer Head Review

Grass Gator 8010 Load n' Cut Replacement String Trimmer Head
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I put this on a gas powered weed eater (R)that I considered obsolete.
This retrofit turned it into a professional edger.
The change was very easy.
My original weed eater(R) trimmer head only had a single line.
The Grass Gator 8010 lets you load up to 4 lines.
It howles when I rev it up !!!!
Previously I suffered a lot of frustration (with the original trimmer head) when the line would snap and I had to take the original spool appart to re-thread the line through the feed hole.
The Grass Gator (R) 8010 made my day.
The packaging says it can handle trimmer lines from 0.095 to 0.130 inches,
however I tried a commercial grade 0.155 inch "rib-shaped" trimmer line and on one yard trimming the lines only wore out about 0.5 inch !!!
I used 0.155 Commercial Grade trimmer line made by Arnold LLC.
If you want to try out the same trimmer line I used - here is the link

This matched bar set with the slightly aggressive chain made my 14 year old Stihl perform like new...very impressed...has some kickback , which I expected , but is not excessive...purchase and shipping from Baileys was exactly as promised...also , this combo really takes a lot of the work of bucking large hardwoods...Eli

Poulan PP1000E 7-Inch Pro Lawn Edger Attachment Review

Poulan PP1000E 7-Inch Pro Lawn Edger Attachment
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The concept is elegant but simple. As manufacturers of lawn care machines (residential grade, that is) have been mostly consolidated, shaft sizes as well as mounting points and patterns are as standardized as they have ever been. With this little darling, you can buy one power head unit (string trimmer with detachable/2-piece shaft), and then add this or other implements as needed. The implement is cheaper than a purpose-built or standalone edger, and when the power head wears out, you can toss it and get another that mates right up to the edger.
Performance is tightly coupled with your power head, so choose that wisely based on weight, power and form factor. The edger's guide wheel supports its extra weight, but this isn't true of other attachments. If you like the power head you have, you're likely to be pleased with it behind this edger as well. Mine works fine with an older 31CC Ryobi which I demoted after buying a commercial string trimmer. I wish it used the bigger (9") blades simply cause they are heavier duty ... still, the 7.5" ones are just fine, and edger blades are relatively cheap. It would take a stronger power head to run an edger with bigger blades anyway. You'll probably wear the blade more on the first edging of the season than the rest of the season combined b/c it's harder to break new ground, ya'know? The visual improvement of edged versus string trimmed is appreciable, and this little implement delivers a professional look, and is quick about it.
For the money, ( approximately $100 less than the closest alternative, $200 less than the "quality" dedicated edger I would've bought ) you can't beat this edger. I use it for the inner and outer edge of my concrete circle drive and both sides of the sidewalk from said drive to my door. By the time I finished using it the first time, I was acclimated to the motions and postures needed to use my setup, I had established my feel and sightline for expedient usage, and was confident this would be a dandy tool. You will find familiarizing yourself with the depth-of-cut-adjustment to be a worthwhile initial expenditure of time. Too shallow a cut necessitates your contorting to edge. ( NEVER adjust moving parts while your machine is running!! ) After the initial annoyance of having to adjust the blade depth to suit my height/power head setup, like I said, it was a dandy. Nothing has happened this summer to contradict that initial impression. I've had some practice, and plenty of opportunity to find weaknesses. This is how I use it:
Total distance: 500+ linear feet
Edging time: ~ 7 minutes
Edging time ( very first pass & acclimation to tool ): ~30 minutes
Edging schedule: Approx. every two weeks. ( As you may surmise, an electric model wasn't an option since I don't have, need or want a 200' extension cord. If you have considerably less to do, or don't already have a compatible gas trimmer, the B&D Edge Hog might be a lead to follow first as an electric alternative. Many feel electrics are less muss and fuss, though I would rather mix a little fuel than futz about with an extension cord all day )
If you need an edger, and would like to spend $60-$80 ILO $200+, I think this is a winning alternative. I have a lot of edging work when I mow, which used to take just over an hour to perfect with a string trimmer - a miserable experience I dreaded. There's no way I'd spend another $200 bucks on a dedicated edger unless I had 10 times as much to do. Spend your bucks on a powerful and reliable power head instead. Cross-reference accepted alternative power heads/engines ( the one you already own may work; most will - attachment is indicated for other makes besides Poulan, though their PoulanPro Series seems to be a good value ). The string trimmer will still work without the edger, and can do double duty, while the mid-grade dedicated edgers are Johnny-One-Notes that introduce another possible point of failure in your yard arsenal. Can you tell I'm pretty exuberant about gaining back that sweaty, awful hour of my life from the string trimmer, and doing so for a savings?

Earthwise ST00015 15-Inch 6.25 amp Electric String Trimmer Review

Outstanding twin cord trimmer with lots of power, makes mulch of tall grass and weeds. It was purchased to replace a 18V battery operated trimmer that would not last very long on a charge, even with two batteries and a hi-power charger most of the time it petered out before finishing around our house which sits on a small 60 x 80 lot. The disadvantage of using an extention cord is quickly offset by the power and ease of use of this trimmer. I highlt recommend it, good quality at a low price.
