(More customer reviews)The Weed Hound is all steel and is very well-made. The (few) moving parts are heavy-duty and two seasons of use have failed to damage it, beyond wearing the paint off the parts that actually penetrate the ground. It has the added advantage of leaving a tidy little aeration hole in the soil every time you pop out a weed. Just place, step, twist/pull and the weed is extracted, with all or most of the root. It generally works better on broadleaf weeds than on stuff like crabgrass that have spreading root systems but you can't beat it for dandelions.
And it's made in the USA.

(More customer reviews)In my efforts of going green I purchased this product to help loosen dirt and for weeding. I had never used on of these before, so I was a bit leary. It really works well on weeds, even if the weeds are getting pretty tall, the mini claw helps to loosen the dirt around the roots, so you can pull them clean away with the whole root attached. I'm disabled, so I have to use this sitting down, and it is the perfect size for me. I'd purchase this item again, so I would encourage family and friends to get one as well.

(More customer reviews)I am probably taking my life in my hands by reviewing this item and angering the millions of Garden Weasle's fans, but it just doesn't do it for me. The only way this works in maintenance mode is if the soil has been tilled at the beginning of the planting season and virtually pulverized. If you work your soil and ammend it with add'l peat and topsoil this works o.k. Unfortunately, I don't do anything that labor intensive in spring and usually have a hard time using this. It is an enormous physical struggle to work this contraption through the garden. I suspect that anyone who works their soil before planting will find this does a satisfatory job. I unfortunately probably don't do as much prep-work as I should and find the results lackluster at best.
