(More customer reviews)The Poulan cultivator / tiller that I purchased from Amazon worked great for a few hours, but then it broke in two places 1) down low where the shaft connects into the cultivator AND 2) much worse than this, when it failed, it stripped out the shaft ABOVE the click-link connector; in the top half of the unit (the piece that you dont get when you purchase the cultivator / tiller) into which this cultivator / tiller attaches. So while my engine still worked, NONE of my attachments worked as the receptical into which each connects was stripped by the cultivator / tiller attachment. Needless to say, I was VERY VERY unhappy. While Amazon refunded the money for the Poulan cultivator / tiller, they did not pay to fix the stripped shaft, and I was left to pay to have that replaced myself, a really big hassle.
In my opinion (I am not an engineer) it seems like the hard work begin done by the cultivator / tiller puts far too much tension into the small spinning rod inside the shaft of the entire unit. Tilling dirt causes a much greater resistance than edging, trimming, or blowing. I am surprised that more folks haven't experienced or reported this issue.

I went to start it today, roughly 4 1/2 months after the last use, cord snapped immediately. This tiller has been meticulously cared for and stored in a heated garage over winter. Buyer's beware.

(More customer reviews)This product came damaged. The damage was beyond the small damage on the outer packing. It turned out that it had clearly gone through some major accident because the blower casing was actually distorted so much that part of it was interfering with a rotating part. Later I found that the exhaust recirculation duct was also broken, preventing the product from working.
I have four comments: One is about Amazon. They returned the money and told me to keep the machine. I rate their customer service tops. The rating above has nothing to do with Amazon's service: I continue to rate them FIVE STAR after many years of experience.
The second is about the local Service Shop of this company on Buford Highway in Doraville, Atlanta GA. They flat-out refused to help diagnose why a brand-new machine was not working, and told me that Yard Machines would not cover the repair under Warranty. They deserve a 2-star because they were perhaps honest in their assessment of Yard Machines.
The third is about Yard Machines: They need to fire their Packaging and Shipping VPs. There is no way that this product should have left the factory in such incompetent packaging, and there is no way that they should have delivered it to me in such a seriously damaged condition. Note: this was NOT damage from a casual drop by someone who lifted it, it MUST have been in a serious accident.
Others have also complained about the poor quality of packaging. That is an understatement. For this YardMAchines deserves a Zero Star.
The last is about the machine itself. When I finally got it repaired by a competent engineer (myself) it works fine. Thank you, Amazon, and yes, I blew the savings buying a lot of other stuff like Russian Hats from Amazon.
So that's what earned the third star.

Mantis 4222-00-02 Tiller Aerator Attachment Review

(More customer reviews)You may not need this item, but if you do, you won't be sorry for buying it! Since I bought my current house, my lawn has been in sad shape. Patchy grass, mostly weeds, dead thatch-filled spaces that rapidly fill in with dandelions. Trying to dig out weeds has been nearly impossible, because the ground is solid clay with a tons of rocks. The white grubs only make matters worse. 3 years of overseeding, weeding, fertilizing has gotten me nowhere.
This year I bought the aerater attachment for the Mantis (bundled with the dethatcher). This thing kicks butt! No problem slicing through the dead matted thatch, cutting deep grooves in the clay. It tosses up rocks that can easily be picked up. It slices up weed roots (and dices a few grubs too) as a bonus. The weeds pull very easily afterwards, and the overseeding I've done all seems to be sprouting as the seeds fell into the grooves.
The grass looks very ugly after you run this baby, but a couple of weeks later it's looking like a new lawn. It helps to run it after rain, or water a little first. The only downside I can see is that it's pretty small, so I probably can't do the whole 2 acres every year!
