Man, oh, man. This string can tear through some grass, weeds, brush, ivy, or whatever you can throw at it. I am using an Echo trimmer and had been using the line provided with the Echo when I bought it. What a difference! My trimmer was eating everything in site and it was even quieter than before. Get this stuff!

I searched high and low at all the local hardware stores for a replacement chain for a Stihl 18" bar 74 drive link chain saw and wasn't able to find one. This one came quickly after I ordered it from Amazon and fit perfectly. We have been using the chainsaw a lot this spring with the replacement chain and it has been cutting through wood like butter. This is a good quality product and well worth the cost.

Oregon PS55 PowerSharp Saw Chain For 16-Inch McCulloch, And Stihl Chain Saws Review

Oregon PS55 PowerSharp Saw Chain For 16-Inch McCulloch, And Stihl Chain Saws

The Oregon PowerSharp system is an excellent way to keep your saw chain razor sharp. Though not available for larger chain bar lengths, the PowerSharp system is brilliant in the way it keeps your 14" and 16" saw chain sharp, with the depth gauge (aka "raker") appropriately adjusted with each sharpening. I use the 16" loop for my Stihl MS 200T arborist chainsaw. I couldn't be happier with this purchase!

Greenworks 21602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 12-Inch Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with 6 Amp/Hour Extended Run-Time Lithium Ion Battery & Charger Review

Greenworks 21602 20-Volt Lithium Ion 12-Inch Cordless Electric String Trimmer/Edger with 6 Amp/Hour Extended Run-Time Lithium Ion Battery and Charger
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted to replace my Homelite 14" dual-line string trimmer as I finally had enough of the noise, pollution, starting issues, mixing/storing of gas & oil, engine maintenance, and the constant need (and effort) to replace the pre-cut line strips.
Cordless is the way to go. However, given the current limitations of battery technology, I was concerned about finding a string trimmer that had the necessary balance of power, run time, weight, and charge time. I also wanted a reliable unit that would give me years of trouble-free service.
I did my usual due-diligence, and spent hours reading reviews and handling a few units at the local hardware stores. I work in the computer/electronics field, so I am very familiar with battery technology and the other parts of a string trimmer. I know I wanted Lithium Ion batteries with >30 minutes run time. I was also more interested in the highest AH (Amp Hour) rating than Volts (e.g., 18V, 20V, 36V, etc). Marketing is pushing the voltage rating (largely because the lower-cost Ni-cad batteries have a lower Amp-Hour rating in comparison to Lithium Ion batteries of the same weight). However, voltage is a poor indicator of how powerful and long the trimmer will run. For example; both a tiny hearing-aid battery and D-size flashlight battery have the same voltage rating (1.5V), however the D-size battery has a much higher Amp-Hour rating. If you replaced the D cell in a flash light with the tiny hearing-aid battery, the light would barely be visible and would drain the battery in less than a minute. Whereas the D cell would light the lamp at full brightness for over 30 minutes. Same basic principle applies to a trimmer. Choices as of now (2010) for Li-Ion batteries range from 1.3 Ah to 6.0 Ah. 6 Ah is a huge amount of capacity! 1.3 Ah is small, and given the amount of current (Amps) required each minute to spin a string-trimmer motor powerful enough to cut grass, is only suitable for a postage-stamp sized yards.
For comparison; as of 2011, a hi-capacity laptop Li-Ion battery is ~ 4.5 Ah.
In addition, Li-Ion batteries do not have the memory effect that NiCad batteries do, so I do not have to totally discharge the battery before recharging. That is a major weakness for Ni-Cads because you always end up charging the battery for the full 12+ hours before each use. Furthermore, Li-Ion batteries hold their charge over a much longer period of time than a Ni-Cad. I can fully charge a Li-Ion battery and, a week or so later, top it off with a quick charge (say 90 minutes) as required over the season.
Unfortunately high Amp-Hour Li-Ion string-trimmer choices are very limited at this time. The Greenworks 21602 and Troy-Bilt TB57 are really the only choices; the TB57 being the cheaper of the two. They are basically the same unit. They both use the identical Li-Ion 6AH battery and 4 ½ hr. charger. The only real difference (other than color) is the shaft, throttle switch, and the swivel hinge for edging on the Greenworks. BTW: you could buy the TB57 and use the battery on the Greenworks leaf blower. I handled the TB57 at Lowes, and I agree with the negative reviews about the short shaft and force required to hold the safety switch in.
In the end, I ordered the Greenworks mainly because I am 6' tall and the TB57 was just a little short (even with the telescopic shaft at maximum) and I know my finger would get numb from holding the power switch down.
I really struggled with the decision to buy this particular brand of string trimmer. I was hesitant to buy an unknown brand; especially since the Greenworks web site did not list any near-by service locations to drop the unit off for warranty repair (only option is mail in), and reading two reviews on Amazon where the warranty hot line was non-existent or unresponsive. That makes Greenwork's four-year warranty worthless. I am also concerned about the longevity of the electric motor. Will it last +5 years? I noticed two people already experienced early-life motor failures (one Greenworks and one Troy Bilt). I plan on giving the Greenworks a good workout and return it to Amazon if I find anything I don't like during the first 30 days.
Well I got the Greenworks four days after ordering it (selected the free shipping option) from Amazon (exceeding my expectation and one of the main reasons why I buy from Amazon).
Assembly was very easy (needed a Philips screw driver for the one screw). Build quality seems good. I do agree with one reviewer that the plastic handle feels a little cheap as it flexes a bit. However, that flex does make the unit even more comfortable. The shaft is long enough for me. The balance and weight are very good.
Regarding cutting power; this is not a commercial grade trimmer that you use for a landscaping business. The power is sufficient to cut through dense grass; however I have to move a little slower than I did with my gas trimmer. This trimmer is suited for yards that have been maintained well in the past. I would not recommend it for a yard that is, or often becomes, overgrown (i.e., grass or weeds over 12" tall).
The automatic line feed works very well. Each time I start the unit it feeds ¼" of new line. The only drawback is that I go through a lot of line when I move from tree to tree; stopping the unit each time to save battery power. The four hour charge time is adequate as it does keep me from missing a scheduled grass cutting if I forget to charge the battery the day before (can't do that with a 12 hr. Ni-cad charger). Like any battery powered trimmer, the noise level is very low. I am now able to trim the yard in the early morning (before I start using the lawn mower) without getting my neighbors upset. So far I am satisfied with this purchase.
However, I did notice the motor slow down to about 1/3 the speed while using it. The speed returned to normal when I released the throttle and pressed it in again. This happened three times already. I am not sure if the motor has a built in thermal power reduction (which is good as it would prevent the motor from burning up). If it starts to happen more often, I will return the trimmer to Amazon.Update week 1:
Battery life is excellent. I have used this trimmer over a five day period on the original charge. After +30 minutes of use, I still have three of four battery status lights on.
I have noticed that the motor air vents clog with grass clippings after a few minutes of use. This may contribute to the motor overheating/failure problems some are experiencing. I now make it a practice to clean the air vents (wipe off the external grass and blow out the grass inside the motor) every few minutes. I think Greenworks should design a thick foam ring that fits over the motor to trap the clippings. Then all I would need to do is periodically rinse the foam ring in soapy water. Update week 3:
After 3 weeks of use, I am very pleased with this trimmer. It took awhile to get use to the fact that it is always ready to go with just a push of a button; no need to charge before each use, no worries bout prepping the motor and trying to start it, etc. I now find myself pulling out the trimmer when I come from work and spot a few weeds while walking along the driveway or sidewalk. The battery status bar finally dropped down to 2 of 4 lights; so I charged it up to give the battery charger one more test before the 30 day exchange period with Amazon ends.
I have not experienced any more slow downs. I suspect that was caused by clogged air vents.
I used the edger for the first time last week; just pushed the big button on the shaft near the motor and the shaft pivots 90 degrees. The wheel rolled smoothly and the angle of the shaft was perfect as it gave me a good view of the cut. It was much easier than I thought and produced consistent results; far better than the free-hand edging method I have been using for years.
I have already used all the string on the one spool and inserted the free second spool (BTW - easy to change). I went to Home Depot and purchased a 300' re-fill package of the .65 blue line to re-fill the spools as needed. For ~ $7, I have enough line for years.
However, the real shining star is not the trimmer, but the 6AH Lithium-Ion battery. The capacity is perfect for all but mega-size yards.
I received the Greenworks 24602 blower for Father's Day; it uses the 20V/6AH Li-Ion battery from the trimmer. Now I can trim the yard and use the blower to clear off the grass clippings from the driveway and sidewalks. The blower with this battery makes it very convenient to use and makes it more versatile. For example, I used it to blow dry my car after I washed it (beats ringing out drying clothes). I also opened the car doors and blew out some dog hair and dust from inside the car.
I would buy the Greenworks chainsaw (also uses the same battery) to cut up the many small limbs that blow down after a storm. Unfortunately, the current $69 10-inch chainsaw is too expensive and large for what I need. A 6-8 inch model (with a lower cost) would be ideal to cut up limbs and small tree shoots into small enough pieces to toss them in a trash can.
Bottom line: "It's the battery stupid" (I think that's a Bill Clinton quote); the fully capable string trimmers (either the Greenworks or Troy-Bilt) and leaf blower only exist because of it.

People who know chainsaws aren't going to need a review to tell them to buy Oregon- for everyone else, I'll just say, there's a reason why so many of the saws working in the woods say "Stihl," "Husqvarna," "Jonserred," etc. on the powerhead, but "Oregon" on the bar. When your factory bar wears out, replace it with the best.
My setup: Stihl 029 Super, 20" Oregon bar&chain. Tearing out a cypress tree to stove lengths down to the stump, this thing went though like a hot knife through butter and didn't need sharpening after- much smoother and faster than my factory bar&chain.

I had been looking at string trimmers for a couple of months. My old craftsman (circa 1988) finally gave up the ghost. But everything I saw in the big box stores (the blue one and the orange one) looked cheap and flimsy in my price range (less than $200). So I decided to look around online and see what was available even if I needed to pay a bit extra for quality. I had heard about Tanaka but never considered it because my only contact was with a commercial lawn service that used their equipment. So I was looking mainly at Toro and Stihl hoping for a deal out there. A search on Amazon led to this Tanaka unit. There was very little information on the internet about it since it's brand new.
So how does it perform? Unbelievable! Power, power, power. The heavy brush on the lower part of our lot that I had been avoiding because of the sickly Craftsman met it's match and went down without a fight. The engine is very smooth with little vibration. It seems to be comfortable for a while (20 minutes or so) but I'm thinking about a sling. The straight shaft puts the cutter head right where you need it. It started right up with a a few pumps of the primer bulb and then restarted on an easy half pull of the starter rope. There was a little assembly required (mounting the cutter and the handle) but Tanaka even included the tools to put it together.
Overall I couldn't be more pleased and would highly recommend this unit. Plus I found out after I bought it that Tanaka has a $40 rebate through the end of June so it was really a steal!

Here's my review after compare the machine to the Wild Thing model....
I bought the Poulman Wild Thing saw for $149 at big box retailer. At first I thought it was OK. It did feel very light, and it seemed to start easily the first time (about 10pulls). After about 15min of use (cutting scrap highway bridge rail supports) it suddenly bogged down and died. I tried for 1/2 and hour to get again it to start to no avail. The engine's run characterstics seem to change drastically as the engine heats up. Perhaps they used too much aluminum in its construction, or perhaps the carb was mal adjusted. You cannot adjust the carb's settings so you're stuck with that. My guess is that it's a Chinese import. The pattern repeated the next day (starts, runs for a while, and dies) except that after about an hour of cool down, I finally got it to start and run for about another 5min before it died again. I contacted Poulan support, they gave some suggestions, none of them helped. Finally I returned it and upgraded to a Poulan Pro 18" 42cc for another $20 ($169). This machine is unbelievably better! I cut 5 times the wood in 1hour than I was able to cut in 3days with the "wild thing".
The Poulman Pro has many features that are better than the Wild Thing
1.) it does not leak oil everywhere when you sit it down like the wild thing
2.) Padded grips on the starter rope , not that that that matters much since it starts in 3 pulls!
3.) better chain adjustment (no tools required)
4.) heavier construction and smoother running. It's own weight is all I applied to cut through the rail posts in < 10 seconds.
5.) Cuts much better/faster than wild-thing (even though the dispacement is only 2cc more)
6.) Idles well without dying (wild-thing had to be 'petted' to keep it going, I didn't even realize that wasn't normal.)
7.) Mine came with a free extra chain! (that's almost worth the extra $20 right there)
8.) Springs between body of machine and handle to reduce vibration.
In summary, the Puolman Pro is a much better machine and gets more done, is easier to start and use and seems to use less fuel too all for $20 more. It also feels like a more solid machine and aggresively tears through wood without staggering. I'm able to completely cross cut through heavy 8" logs at 3/4 throttle, using full only occsionally as I hit knots and such. Stay away from the Wild Thing! It's a POC and sure to get you laughed at if you try to use it for any serious work!
I'm not comparing this machine to Stihl... if you are a logger or landscaper that uses chain saws as part of your livelihood, get a Stihl, but for the person that neeeds to cut a cord or 2 of wood every year, you'll be very satisfied with this machine.

Product works as advertised. It does not cut as rapidly as a normal chain but the convenience of how fast it can be sharpened more than makes up for the reduced cutting rate.

With the Oregon PowerSharp Starter Kit you can now sharpen your chainsaw chain on the saw, on the job, in seconds. This kit is designed for 14-inch Stihl chainsaws. No need for special tools or expertise, no need to remove the chain; in three easy steps, you can have a precisely sharpened chain. The starter kit comes complete with a PowerSharp chain, bar-mount sharpener, sharpening stone, and guide bar--everything you need to have your chain cutting once again with ease and precision.
From Dull to Sharp in Three Easy StepsThe PowerSharp offers a new alternative to sharpening a chain manually on your own, taking it to a shop, or trying to make due with a dull chain.
When your chain becomes dull, simply attach the bar-mount sharpener to the PowerSharp bar by sliding the steel pins through the guide holes--there's no need to remove the chain from the saw. Close and latch the cover and then start the chainsaw. While accelerating the chainsaw press the foot of the sharpener against a solid object, applying light pressure for three to five seconds. The large, spring-loaded, treaded foot allows you to apply controlled pressure, even against uneven surfaces. Within seconds, you're back in the cut with a precision-sharpened chain.
Precision Sharpening Mechanism Can Be Used Multiple TimesWith steel pins that go straight through the bar, the design of the PowerSharp sharpening system ensures that there is exact alignment between the cutter and the honing surface, for perfect angles and knife-sharp edges. The thick, crescent-shaped sharpening stone provides a long-lasting honing surface.
The guidance drive link works together with the cutter, cutter depth gauge, and depth gauge tie strap to provide the stability required to create a consistent cutting edge. The chain and the sharpener work together, as a diamond-coated dresser link resurfaces the stone, ensuring optimum honing angles.
Designed to last as long as conventionally sharpened chains, each PowerSharp chain can be sharpened from 5 to 15 times, depending on conditions. A new sharpening stone is included with each new replacement PowerSharp purchased and should be replaced. This kit is for 3/8-inch-pitch low profile chain, .050-inch-gauge cutting systems with 50-drive links.
Portable Sharpening SystemThe PowerSharp Starter Kit is small enough to fit into your toolbox, and light enough to carry with you, so you'll always be ready to sharpen a dull chain. Though the four components of the system are lightweight, they are extremely durable. Highly visible yellow casing prevents misplacing the kit in the field, even in low light.
The Oregon PowerSharp Starter Kit is covered by a limited lifetime warranty against defects in materials or workmanship.

Husqvarna 235 16-Inch 34.4cc X-Torq 2-Cycle Gas Powered Chain Saw Review

Husqvarna 235 16-Inch 34.4cc X-Torq 2-Cycle Gas Powered Chain Saw
Average Reviews:

This was the least expensive 16" I could find. Also the build quality gets cheaper and cheaper every time I buy a new chain saw. I had a WoodShark that was as cheap as I would put up with and did not want to replace it with the newer Poulan model. Husqvarna's build quality is decent so it has sufficed in that department. This saw ran perfectly out of the box but needed to have the low fuel adjustment altered in warmer temperatures. You need a special splined screwdriver to do this or there is the hack of tapping a piece of 1/4 inch steel tubing over it.The later method worked well enough. The choke is designed to shut off by squeezing the throttle so you can't accidentally leave it on. If the carb is adjusted perfectly this is not a problem but allowing to leave the choke on is better. Leave it to the EPA to make a chainsaw harder to use. It does not have the tool-less tension adjuster but I don't believe that it is a deal breaker. I did not experience any chain oiling problems that other purchasers have stated. The oil tank is a little too small so you just have to not completely fill the fuel tank so the fuel ends up running out before the oil. This saw has about the same power as the poulan I replaced it with. If you want a inexpensive 16" saw of acceptable build quality you should be satisfied.

I got this for my Poulan PLN3516F 16-Inch 3.5 HP Electric Chain Saw. It arrived 5 days later and it was a perfect fit.
There is a selection guide at OregonChain's website that pointed me to this particular model (the S55) and it was the only match.
From their website:

Oregon 541221 PowerSharp Starter Kit For 16-Inch Stihl Chain Saws Review

Oregon 541221 PowerSharp Starter Kit For 16-Inch Stihl Chain Saws
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had high hopes for this product, but it was a huge disappointment. I can't comment on the self-sharpening mechanism, as the product utterly failed before I could dull the chain.
I use a Stihl 018C saw -- one of the most widely used saws around -- and yet it's as if Oregon never tested against it. The PowerSharp product failed to meet even basic functional requirements.
The product doesn't work with the Quick Chain Adjuster mechanism on the saw. Although the adjuster does fit onto the bar, it was simply impossible to get enough tension on the chain, and so the bar repeatedly "threw" the chain. Worse, the bar doesn't take up oil properly (and by "properly", I mean "at all"). The chain overheated and smoked every time I tried to use it.
I invested several hours into trying to make this product work -- I really wanted it to succeed. And I confirmed that the problem isn't in my equipment -- when I put my original Stihl bar and chain back on, everything worked normally.
The problem is that this is a lousy, poorly tested product. The sharpener may be a useful innovation, but it hardly matters because the product fails on the basics.
Oh, and you can't return it to Amazon because, in order to discover all these flaws, you'll violate the "unopened, new condition only" requirement.

With the Oregon PowerSharp Starter Kit, you can now sharpen your chainsaw chain on the saw, on the job, in seconds. This kit is designed for 16-inch Stihl chainsaws.
While accelerating the chainsaw, press the foot of the sharpener against a solid object, applying light pressure for three to five seconds.
This kit is for 3/8-inch-pitch low profile chain,.050-inch-gauge cutting systems with 55-drive links.
Portable Sharpening SystemThe PowerSharp Starter Kit is small enough to fit into your toolbox, and light enough to carry with you, so you'll always be ready to sharpen a dull chain. Though the four components of the system are lightweight, they are extremely durable. The bar-mounted sharpener has a highly visible yellow casing that prevents misplacing the sharpener in the field, even in low light.

Husqvarna 505675515 ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System Review

Husqvarna 505675515 ProForest Chain Saw Helmet System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have been using this helmet for the past three days with my new pruner. I have a 7-1/4 head size and have had no issues with fit or adjustments.
Pros:
1. Fits well
2. Ear protections does not rub at all
3. Face shield is Metal coated in Nylon. (not enough to stop anything huge but will stop most).
4. Hearing protection cancels out noise very well.
Cons:
1. Face shield does not completely cover your chin. (so that you can look down and cut much easier 50/50 complaint)
2. Head band could use more for sweat but really isn't an issue.
3. Large safety glasses do not go behind your ears well. Use the smaller ones or get some good goggles.
4. Rain guard is a joke I threw it back in the box.
Truthfully all of the cons really are not that big of deal to me. I picked this up at Shoppers Supply for $45.88. You have to put it together but it isn't rocket science it is a protective helmet. Overall it was a great buy and it really does help with debris flying at you. It won't stop everything but it will stop the bigger stuff. Also always wear Safety goggles with this helmet. If you want your eyes protected wear eye protection. You want your face, head, and ears protected wear this thing.

Black & Decker NST2036 Heavy-Duty 36-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer Review

Black and Decker NST2036 Heavy-Duty 36-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used many gas trimmers in the past. When I say many, I mean many. I actually used to own a landscape company where we used commercial grade 2 cycle gas trimmers by Stihl. I am no longer in that business, but still like to have equipment with some power. How anyone uses those trimmers with extension cords is beyond me. I decided I did not want a 2 cycle trimmer, so I turned to a 4 stroke version by Honda and then came across this 36v by Black and Decker. I was skeptical, but seeing how they give you a 30 day free trial, thought why not. Is it as or more powerful as a lot of gas trimmers out there? Yes it is. Is it as powerful as my 2 cycle commercial grade Stihl's I used to use? No it is not, but it is damn close. This thing is clean, environmentally friendly, healthier for me to use and maintenance free. Some low rating reviews are listed here as well, but if you really read them, it's almost like they own Southfork Ranch and trying to trim the property on one charge. Those people should not have purchased something like this to begin with. This product is not made for them. It has a ton of power to trim with ease through the toughest foliage and I can actually do my "average" size yard 2-3 times on one charge. This trimmer is NICE! I would recommend it to anyone with a nominal sized yard. Try it! Disagree with me; send it back with in 30 days and write your review.

The first trimmer in its class to receive the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star certification for its charging system, this efficient and environmentally friendly model from Black & Decker trims mowed areas on most 1/2-acre homesites, and is great for heavy-duty weed clearing and cutting. Powered by a longlasting 36-volt NiCad battery for robust performance that rivals gas, but without the mess and hassle, the NST2036 boasts a 14-inch cut path and speeds up to 7,500 RPM. In fact, it cuts more area per charge than any other cordless trimmer currently on the market, and yields impressive results even around tough areas like against fences, near gutter drains, or the perimeter of trees with large root bases. It's also very easy to operate, thanks to a host of helpful features like dual .080-inch lines for long life, a patented gear drive for the right amount of torque to handle thick, bushy grass and brush, and a variable speed trigger for optimum control. For additional comfort and stability, you can adjust the auxiliary handle to your height, and the telescoping shaft can also be extended to access whatever you're cutting. Finally, a bump feed system feeds the line on demand, and a shoulder strap helps ensure even distribution of weight. The NST2036 comes with a three-year warranty.

Husqvarna 240E 16-Inch 38.2cc X-Torq 2-Cycle Gas Powered Chain Saw With Smart Start (CARB Compliant) Review

Husqvarna 240E 16-Inch 38.2cc X-Torq 2-Cycle Gas Powered Chain Saw With Smart Start (CARB Compliant)
Average Reviews:

I would give the saw an overall B- rating. The positve: It starts fairly easily if starting steps followed properly -- read them, follow them. It is light enough for the average home user. The engine seems pretty solid and I cut 1 cord of wood with the saw (for cutting wood, this saw is too small, but did actually do the task). The negative: the plastic toolless blade adjuster works ok, but seems weak and will break any minute. It worked sorta ok for me, but not great. The oiler didn't work so good after a few hours of use and should be cleaned often.
Overall the saw would be good for a home user that needs to cut 4 inch limbs and the occasional 6-10 tree. Follow instructions for starting and keep the chain well oiled, even if the oiler gets gunked up.
