Such people obviously do not garden.
This is the best at what it does: hand cultivation and weeding of your prepared garden beds.
It is not dynamite. It is not a crow bar. It will not extract boulders from your granite stone New England field.
It weeds and cultivates and aerates with minimum of damage your prepared and composted vegetable and flower garden.
The best. Better than metal. Less damage to all involved, including the plants.
Sure, maybe you can find one cheaper at your city's big box shop.
It won't be the fine Fiskar brand name. And you'll waste your own fuel instead of the USPS's gas.
Best tool. All right price. Best at what it does.
Okay. I admit it. It won't plow your lower 40.
But it is not designed to.
Fiskar Garden cultivator, dude. Not John Deere's combine.
Get one.
Not a gardener?

(More customer reviews)I had a Bolens that cost 200.00&lasted one season,no fault of my own.MTD(Bolens)explained various reasons,but read the reviews(Lowes)and you will find 271 reviews citing the same stuttering pull cord starter and/or inoperable next season(new carb kit is the 45.00fix) but hard to pull(recoils)anyway.Got an electric Toro ,like a blender in a sandbox!Cord is a nusance.Took it back the next day. Finally decided to pony up my ante & choose between the Stihl Yard Boss&Mantis, plain old 2cyle tiller/cultivator.I chose the Mantis because my mother- in- law had one 30 years ago&I thought it worked fine,but too expensive.Turns out the Mantis can convert to a hedge trimmer!And all the stuff the Stihl can convert to for about 100.00 less.(I owm a Stihl weedeater & chain saw and they are great,probably the best (all the previous,albeit cheaper tools are in-op or a back-up)But the Mantis is everything.I live on a farm,put in raised beds,tried it out in the wetlands(after weedwacking the ground to the bone)it worked great! Next & final test was to till hard ground that was barren weeds,to put in ground cover landscaping. THIS MANTIS TORE UP THE CLAY AND WEEDS LIKE IT WAS A REAR TILLER MACHINE)Tines have a LIFETIME guarantee&the Mantis itself has a great warranty.It is so easy to pull start,tines convert from tiller to cultivator by reversing them ,so you can go 3 inches or 8 inches deep in a minute!(pull the carter pin)

Fiskars 7991 Rotary Cultivator Review

(More customer reviews)The build quality of this cultivator is pretty good, with the metal shaft of other Fiskars products. It is easy to wield, and the tines move quickly and smoothly. The length is a compromise between something you can use when kneeling down in the bed and something you can use while standing up, although when I do so I need to bend over a fair amount. I wish it was about a foot or two longer.

(More customer reviews)Having read the negative review of the person from Tucson, I was wary of buying this tool. I wasn't sure if the blade was large enough or strong enough to work through the many rocks in my soil.
I need a tool that can be aimed fairly precisely at the root... digging in my gravelly soil is difficult with a shovel and I have plants near the weeds that I don't want to disturb. The weeds... mostly mature yellow dock with deep, sometimes huge and tough tap roots.
The weeder is working beautifully for me. The workmanship of the tool is high quality, built to last, and, even in my wicked soil, it looks like it will never bend. It is designed for ease of handling, and succeeds.
Yes, the slippery roots can elude the weeder, partly because they can take surprising twists and turns. But I've had a lifetime of gardening and, with a little patience with him/herself, the good gardener in Tucson might discover other ways of teasing out the root without resorting to plunging it in repeatedly. One suggestion - when you miss the root, you can usually see where it went and twist the tool while it's still in the ground. By watching the movement of the weed above ground, you can usually see if you are getting closer.
I highly recommend this weeder.

Ardisam Inc 21' Front Tine Tiller 3365Ps Gas Tiller Review

One is sold as earthquake, one as ardisam, and one as huskee from tractor supply, which is the one I have. They are all made by the same company. Mine has the 6.75 model engine on it, and has been on sale for the last several weeks for only $360.00. Breaking ground with it is a little rough on the arms, but it never seemed to mind. It has a serviceable transmission, which alot of the others do not have. It is well worth the money compared to a rear tine, but is a bit more work to handle. I recommend this tiller, but check at tractor supply for a cheaper version of the EXACT SAME TILLER!

Stens 370-350 Tiller Tine Set For Troy Bilt Horse & Pony 1901118 Review

(More customer reviews)The tine set was shipped directly and quickly (~3 days) from Stens. The tines are the three hole variety and seem (?) to be of good quality. Each of the provided bolts (32 total) is, however, about 1/4" shorter than the original bolts and is too short to be used with a lock washer. I chose to install the new tines using the old, original bolts. Although this is not functionally a really big deal because the original bolts show little wear, I expected somewhat better control of quality. New tines dramatically improve the perfomance of a ten year old tiller, and overall I am satisfied with this purchase.

The 3 long tines can be easily driven into the soil at the base of the offending plant; the long handle provides leverage to rip it out. Then, when you've got a pile of debris, the tines provide a handy rake to clean it all up.
I've used it on big clumps of perennial grasses, on patches of Bermuda grass, on invading blackberries, on French broom, and lots of other things.
The mattock end is well-sharpened, great for precision whacking of things like dandelion, Picris, dock and other small weeds.

Troy-Bilt 21A-643B066 Bronco 208cc Rear Tine Tiller Review

(More customer reviews)Just got this machine. Well, I got one close to this. I was planning on ordering this one from Amazon but found a clearance priced unit at Lowes with a 6HP OHV engine for a lower price and I was able to take it home right away (No shipping and waiting)
Got it home and it started right up. Extremely pleased with its performance. It tore right through my grassed in areas where I am starting a garden and flower beds. I was amazed at how quickly and how good of a job the tiller did on the soil. I dug out a 30' x 15' garden and over 100' of flower beds in just a few hours with no problems. The soil is ready for planting.
A few things, it is not as easy as the ads show. it is hard work to wrestle this (or any other tiller) around whilst digging. You will get a workout and if you are lacking upper body strength, you might find it to be too much. You might also consider the model with a reverse gear for added maneuverability. The rear tine design is miles ahead of using a front tine model however. This was a pleasure compared to a front tine.
A few specifics to this machine...
You have to pull a pin and slide the wheels on the axle shaft and reinsert the pin to engage the gear drive. Not the hardest thing to do but something to be aware of. The machine is very slow to transport unless you leave the wheels disengaged, shut off the engine and just push it. Also, if you chose to use the engine to transport the machine to where you are working, the tines will rotate as the wheels move. There is no way to have the unit propel itself without the tines spinning.
All in all, its more than I was hoping for. I was considering a Mantis 4 stroke but for less money, I was able to buy the correct machine as I would have been expecting way too much from a smaller tiller. Dollar for dollar, I couldn't be more pleased with the performance.

(More customer reviews)If you have never dethatched your lawn before, you'll be in for a surprise using this dethatcher. I was surprised at how much "stuff" came out when I dethatched my front lawn the first time. It's a small front lawn, but there was enough material to fill four mower bags!
It is best to do this when the soil is just a little moist, or a little to the dry side. The dethatching wires don't work well in mud! After dethatching, your lawn will be covered by the brown thatch. A lawn mower serves as an effective vacuum cleaner for this. If you haven't dethatched for a while, dethatch again after vacuuming with a mower, and you'll be even more surprised how much stuff you'll get out in the second run!
This attachment is very easy to attach to the tiller and use. Now, I am ordering the aerating kit separately to get the lawn ready for Spring fertilizing/overseeding.

Stens 370-270 Economy Tiller Tine Set Troy Bilt 1901118 Review

(More customer reviews)Not OEM, but quality made.... any tine would be tough to install, these (due to Troy-Bilt) are like a Chinese puzzle. Take pictures prior to dismantling the old ones, lay the right and left sides out in advance, only disassemble one side at a time so that you can repeat the pattern. I'm a gear head and these were frustrating but necessary after 8 seasons. WHAT a difference new times make and the cost of OEMS are crazy.
