(More customer reviews)I'll preface my comments by stating this item will no doubt survive a nuclear holocaust - a claim I am unlikely to make for myself. That being said, the overall quality of this item is a bit shoddy. The spot welds used to attach the tines to the main support rod lack any subtlety, and appear to have been performed by a drug-addled youth.
This tool will last, but is doesn't cut the grade compared to the larger tools in this product line, or even the hand trowel and hand fork offered by Brook and Hunter.

They have performed far better than the tubes that came with the wagon, those tubes had a continual slow leak requiring me to add air every week or two. These tubes have held their air and the bent valves allowed for easy connection to the air pump. I recommend this product to any one that needs replacement inner tubes.

(More customer reviews)Save your money!!!!! After going thru cheap gas trimmers like disposable lighters, I thought I'd bite the bullet and buy a good one. Well, after spending $199.00 for this troy built, I thought this would last me a while. WRONG!!! I pruchased it from Fleet Farm in Chippewa Falls WI. While using it my third time, I heard a terrible noise, and it suddenly quit. Returning to the store with it, they told me I abused it, and there was nothing they could do (trimming weeds is abuse?! - isnt that what this is supposed to do?) So another $109.00 later, it now had a new flywheel. Tried it again - after about 15 minutes use, there was that horrible noise again, and another sudden stop. I called Troy Built, and was told to take a hike, it was my problem, and they would do nothing for me, but I could send it in and they would install another flywheel for me - Another $109.00 + shipping. My nice new Troy built trimmer now occupies its rightful spot at the local landfill, along with the $308.00 it cost me for about 1-1/2 hours use. Along with the putrid performance of this piece of garbage goes the total lack of service by the selling dealer, FARM AND FLEET in chippewa falls.
If youre thinking of buying one of these trimmers - DONT DO IT - it is an expensive paperweight, with absolutely no customer service.

(More customer reviews)I have had my Troy Bilt with the Brush Cutter attachment and several other attachments. The trimmer and brush cutter attachments have performed exceedingly well. The brush cutter has no difficulty cutting through brush and small trees up to 1 inch in diameter. It may cut bigger but I have not attempted it. I have had absolutely no trouble with the engine or these two attachments. The tiller attachment is a little hard to use but still performed. I have purchased several other trimmers in the past and this one beats them all. I have never had any trouble starting it either. I would highly recommend it.

Up until their unpublicized policy change in September, you could request the difference in price credited back to you if the purchase was less than 30 days before price drop. I guess I bought mine after the deadline, as I requested a credit for the price difference and was denied stating their new policy. Since I now have no recourse if a better price is advertised,I have been more hesitant buying products from Amazon since the policy change.

(More customer reviews)I just purchased a Troy-Bilt 4HP triple blade Edger at Lowes yesterday. The unit edges well. We have a long driveway (500 ft.) with lots of curves, and I believe we can keep grass from growing into the driveway with this unit. On the downside, I've only tried to start it a couple times, with poor success both times. Right out of the box, it took about 15 pulls to start the first time. After running for several minutes, I released the safety bar, which kills the engine (there is no clutch to stop the blade... releasing the bar kills the engine). Then, with the engine already warm from just runing, it took another 10-15 pulls to re-start. The unit has no choke, only a primer bulb which I believe contributes to hard starting. Zapped by "big brother" again!
UPDATE: After using this edger for about 2 months, I believe my rating to be a little to hard. The problem is that the number of pump primes needed to start the machine cold is considerably more than stated in the instructions, at least on my edger. The instructions written on the edger say to pump it 3X. The instructions in the users manual say to pump the primer 6X. By experience, I've learned that if I pump it 12X, it usually starts on the first pull. As long as I know this, it is not really a problem. Our driveway is 450 feet long, so requires 900 feet of edging total (because there are two sides). The edger does a good job. However, it will only dig a maximum of 2 1/4". This is lower than other edgers I've used. Because the edge of our drive is higher than the ground, if I edgw with the wheels on the hard driveway surface per the instructions, I can only dig less than an inch deep. If I want to edge deeper (up to 2 1/4"), I have to have the wheels on the ground. This is contrary to the instructions, but works. Because I'm satisfied with the edger, and have overcome the initial starting problem, I would change my rating to a 4.0 if amazon allowed that.

The (few) moving parts are heavy-duty and two seasons of use have failed to damage it, beyond wearing the paint off the parts that actually penetrate the ground. It has the added advantage of leaving a tidy little aeration hole in the soil every time you pop out a weed. Just place, step, twist/pull and the weed is extracted, with all or most of the root. It generally works better on broadleaf weeds than on stuff like crabgrass that have spreading root systems but you can't beat it for dandelions.
And it's made in the USA.

UPDATE: I made use of the warranty and got a new one. I've been more careful with it and it's performing well. I'd give it a couple more stars now, but I can't seem to change that part of my review.

I couldn't believe I wouldn't get some usefulness from my newly purchased Hound Dog auger, as the areas i wished to plant are recently tilled and planted (I am putting in end-of-summer replacement color), and found this auger stalled out before cutting through hair-fine roots near the surface. Arrrrgh. The wrenching of my wrist when the auger froze my 18v drill was worse then if I had dug the hole by hand. I tried different speeds, and practiced in different soils around the garden to no good effect. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS ITEM!!!!! I wish I'd read the previous review before my purchase, and can only OSH will reimburse me when they see the length of the register tape upon which this item was purchasedl

The parts were still available, but would have cost about half the cost of the new engine. I'm glad I chose to repower instead of rebuild the original engine.
