I did read the directions - but I could not think why the manufacturer would keep the old, upper-half, of the rotating housing. DON'T QUESTION IT!!! Just do EXACTLY as the instructions tell you to - and you will be pleased; quick and easy reloads with a slightly heavier head. (PS - Yes, you can edge with the new head)
